Day 6: Hidden Surprise in the Rio Celeste

We drove 2.5 hours to get to Celeste waterfall. 30 minutes of it was on a bumpy dirty road, but apparently this waterfall is the icon of Costa Rica because of its beautiful turquoise water, so we felt like it would be worth the drive.  By the end, everyone was sick of driving and wanted to get out, so imagine our disappointment when we finally arrived just to have them tell us it was closed for cleaning! What? ?? They told us go up the "road" a bit to a place that had a "hidden surprise" on the Celeste river. We didn't really know what to expect but wanted to do something other than be in the car, so we ventured out.  There was a huge Tarzan swing in the middle of the forest! It went so high and the kids all did it and loved it!

We hiked down to the river and wow the color was stunning!  Thank goodness Adam remembered to bring the kids' life jackets because they all jumped in! There was a little pool area to swim in where the current wasn't as strong. They found a fun place to jump in where the current came rushing out through some rocks and would push them to the middle of the pool area. Lincoln jumped in like 7 times! He is our water lover! Ahhhh it was like heaven! Some other people there commented on how beautiful our family is and how they are all so adventurous and not afraid of anything. How grateful I am that our kids all enjoy adventure! Brigham was a little hesitant to go in the current because of his kayaking fiasco with Adam last summer, but he did it.  I'm proud of him for facing his fears.  But he really didn't feel good and when I felt his forehead he definitely had a fever. I felt so bad! I called everyone out so we could head back up the trail to go back to the car and it started to drizzle. We got our shoes on and it started to pour. Then it was a torrential downpour and our only choice was to face the weather and get back as soon as possible! Sweet Brigham marched up the wet, muddy, steep steps of the trail with huge raindrops soaking us to the bone without any complaints! He was a trooper! Everyone made it! Nobody complained. It was a total adventure! We loved it! By the time we got to the van we were as wet as when we got out of the river.  We had to wring out our clothes!  Totally worth the long drive and it was probably better than seeing the waterfall!!!!
There are too many photos.  Here are some highlights!

This girl was in absolute heaven!  The air temperature, the water temperature...ah, perfection!

Adam found some rocks to balance.... a hidden talent of his!

Of course Lincoln found a log to jump off!

It's difficult to capture in a photo just how much water was falling from the sky!
