Inspired by our new favorite YouTube channel while we were in Costa Rica, "Brave Wilderness," we have been seeking out any and all wildlife we can. We thought it would be so fun to see a crocodile or caiman and my goodness did we get our wish! On our first night in Finca Manglar, the kids and I went out for a night walk to see what we could find in the area. There were a lot of frogs around the perimeter of the yard, but we really didn't see much else. There was a tiny little stream about 2' wide and 4-14" deep where we saw some little fish. Up the stream about 15 feet we saw something that looked like it might be something interesting. I had the kids run inside to get a bowl for us to catch whatever it was while I went a little closer to check it out. It was a caiman, a real live caiman, just like we had seen Coyote Petersen catch on Brave Wilderness! This of course was about 2 ft shorter than the one that he caught, but still, in our very own yard! I was so pumped and wanted to try to catch it with my bare hands, just like he did. I made a couple of attempts, but just couldn't get it. Looking back, I just wasn't committed enough. We decided to make a small snare. Within a couple of minutes, we had it out of the water, into my hands and mouth tied. It was soooo cool! All of the kids had a turn holding it. What a wild adventure this night was!

Brigham reading at night inside is mosquito net bed.
We found this cute little guy on the outside of the net surrounding Lincoln's bed. I love his little toes!
And this big guy would come out of that big hole at night. Yikes!
